The short version
Intercom is a customer communication platform built around a messenger and a knowledge base. Fin is its AI agent, charged at $0.99 per resolution on top of per-seat pricing.
Aiders is an email agent for Shopify stores, charged per store. It does not resolve by explaining. It resolves by doing the thing the customer asked for, inside Shopify.
How each one charges
| Intercom | Aiders | |
|---|---|---|
| Billing unit | Per seat, per month | Per store, per month |
| AI charge | $0.99 per Fin resolution, on top of seats | Included in the plan |
| Meters on your invoice | Two, seats and resolutions | One |
| Published tiers | Per-seat plans, see their pricing page | From EUR 49 per store, 250 emails included |
| A month where the AI resolves more | Costs more | Costs the same |
| Built for | General purpose, strongest in software and on-site chat | Shopify post-purchase email |
Prices move. Check the Intercom pricing page and ours before you decide.
What that means when the volume comes
Give Fin its due first. Charging per resolution is the fairest version of usage pricing: you pay when it works, not when it tries. Plenty of AI tools charge for the attempt, and Intercom does not.
The problem is the shape, not the fairness. The resolution meter sits on top of the seat licence rather than replacing it. Seats do not fall as fast as resolutions rise, because you keep people for the hard threads, the refunds and the escalations. So growth arrives on both meters at once. Work the arithmetic on any number you like. A store that goes from 400 resolved conversations a month to 1,200 in its best quarter pays for 800 more resolutions, just under $800 a month at $0.99, and the seats that were justified at 400 are still on the invoice.
Aiders is per store, one meter, and it counts inbound email rather than success. That cuts both ways and we will say so: Fin's bill tracks your outcomes, ours tracks your volume. What you get in exchange is a number you can budget. A brilliant month and a terrible month cost the same.
What Aiders does here
Aiders answers from the order itself. Where parcel 4471 is, and what to do about it, comes from Shopify and the carrier rather than from an article.
- Issues partial and full refunds itself in Shopify, into the original payment method.
- Waits for the carrier to confirm a return arrived before refunding, then refunds and emails.
- Edits the live Shopify order to change a variant, with a stock check first and a payment link if the price goes up.
- Issues store credit or a real gift card.
- Changes a shipping address on a live order and verifies it landed.
- Runs your refund ladder in code, with a cash ceiling and rungs that can be offer but never pay.
- Per request type, you choose one of three modes: Aiders handles it, Aiders drafts and you approve, or Aiders stops and alerts you.
- Reads a chargeback threat in the wording of the email and alerts you with the customer's exact words, the reasoning and a recommended action.
That last one has a clock on it. The Chargebacks911 2025 Cardholder Dispute Index found nearly half of consumers who dispute bypass the merchant entirely and go straight to the bank, and 88% say winning one dispute makes them more likely to file another. The half who do write to you first are the half you can still keep. They write email, not chat, and usually out of hours.
What Intercom is good at
The Intercom messenger is a top-tier product and the surrounding platform is deep: product tours, outbound messages, a strong help centre, and reporting built for a support org that measures itself. Fin is genuinely good at answering from documentation, and outcome-based pricing puts Intercom's incentives on the same side as yours. If your support is in-app and your answers live in articles, Fin will do a lot of work.
Who should pick which
Pick Intercom if you sell software or a subscription, support happens inside the product, and the right answer is usually an explanation.
Pick Aiders if you sell physical goods, the mail arrives after the parcel does, and the right answer is usually an action: refund it, resend it, change it, cancel it.
If you want a live chat widget on your storefront, that is Intercom's ground, not ours. We do email.
